Give, Expecting Nothing Thereof

A Message From Our President

“The world offers you comfort. But you are not made for comfort. You are made for greatness.”

Even though Pope Benedict XVI said these words ten years ago, they describe the antithesis of what we are told in college today. We are told that life is all about how much we can get in this world. We’re told the right thing to do is whatever you feel is right. As a result, the college fraternity is generally seen as a place to “go wild” and completely lose yourself.

In Mark Chapter 8:36, Jesus says “What profit does a man have if he gains the whole world but loses himself?” Many men in the pursuit of happiness lose sight of what is important in college. In Phi Kappa Theta, we call men to servant leadership and encourage them to generously serve fraternity, society, and God. In a world of “what can you do for me?” we strive to live out our motto: To give and expect nothing thereof.

In a culture that devalues masculinity, Phi Kappa Theta seeks to build men of God. Phi Kappa Theta has and will continue to push men to be greater.

For me, as a freshman there were older men in the fraternity I looked up to as faith models. It made me want to be more like them. Through various opportunities with brothers and being in leadership, this fraternity has helped instill in me the virtues of leadership, prudence, discipline, and friendship. By having dedicated friendships, Phi Kaps strives for greatness of character and habit. This makes the fraternity the single best developmental organization for Christian men on the UW campus.

If you want to make a difference in a world that has forgotten what it means to be a man, grow in virtue, and be a part of a legacy that will continue after your college experience, reach out to me at president.madisonpkt@gmail.com.

In God we trust,

What We Value

Our five pillars represent our highest endeavors:

Spiritual Pillar: The Chapter confesses belief in the personal creator, before whom all men stand equal, and accepts without dissent the faith and morals of the Roman Catholic Church.

Fraternal Pillar: In imitation of the Apostles, brotherhood is the Chapter’s choice instrument for conforming men to Christ. “As iron sharpens iron, so does one man sharpen another.”

Social Pillar: The Chapter acknowledges as a primary obligation the need to serve “the least among us” and maintain social relationships based in love and truth.

Leadership Pillar: The Chapter forms men in whom leadership is essential to their identity, which is made evident in their labor, their families, and their faith communities.

Intellectual Pillar: Scripture tells us that “the man who does not work shall not eat.” The Chapter acknowledges the necessity and good of labor and asserts scholastic excellence in its brothers.
